At Inner Spa and Agasar Family Wellcare at Inner Spa our focus is keeping you well. How do we support your wellness, immunity and vitality? Detox.
We believe when the inside is clean, the outside will shine. It’s the basis of every wellcare service offering, every product on the shelf and even the affiliations we choose.

Your body already has a system in place for removing toxins — your lymphatic system. The lymph system works as a ‘drain’ for your body, pulling toxins, fats and fluids from your cells and tissues. Those toxins are transferred to the bloodstream. From there your body filters them through your organs and kidneys, ultimately releasing them (aka detoxification) with your sweat, urine, and feces.
When your body becomes overloaded with toxins its efficiency is reduced. The toxins then ‘clog up’ the lymph system which can impair your immune system, ultimately leading to potential dis-ease. Toxins enter your body in various ways– through the items you ingest, the air you breathe and even things you touch. Maybe your clothing was treated with chemicals to keep them from wrinkling. Or highway exhaust fumes enter your personal breathing space. Or you eat foods containing preservatives and other non-natural ingredients.
Toxins are all around us and nearly impossible to avoid. But you CAN offset or minimize their effect by supporting your lymphatic system. Here are 10 simple things you can do to encourage your lymph system to operate efficiently:
- Hydrate. Flush your body with the proper amount of plain water, preferably at room temperature. The general rule is half your body weight in ounces. You may need more during hot summer days or when engaging in high-sweat activities. You lose water throughout the day, so be sure to rehydrate according to the situation.
- Move. You’ve probably heard that sitting is the new smoking. Well, inactivity allows toxins to ‘sit’ as your fluids are not pumping the toxins out efficiently. Get up and walk, do a few stretches or even a couple minutes of jumping jacks every hour. Take the stairs. Park far away. One study even suggests using a rebounder. The theory is that the low-impact jumping helps the lymph system by jostling the fluids in your body to encourage excretion.
- Breathe. A few times a day, concentrate on your breathing. You can use the methods taught in yoga classes (or breathe in through your nose for a count of 4, hold for 4, exhale through your mount for 4) while keeping the tip of your tongue behind your front top teeth. Deep breathing sessions only take a few minutes, but have multiple long-lasting benefits such as reduced tension, increased oxygen levels and simply clearing your head.
- Eat. Intentionally consume foods with anti-inflammatory benefits, such as leafy greens, citrus, nuts and seeds. Incorporate spices like turmeric, ginger and garlic. Meanwhile, avoid foods with chemicals, pesticides, artificial ingredients and preservatives—basically avoid most processed/packaged foods. Eat intentionally and mindfully: “Is this beneficial or will I need to offset this ‘splurge’ with more _______?”
- Pose. As in yoga poses. There are several basic yoga poses that help the lymph system function optimally. Child’s pose and downward dog allow the ‘upside-down’ position to redistribute the fluids in your body. Another upside-down pose to include in your day is to lay on the floor with your legs flat against the wall in front of you—straight up. Give it 3 to 10 minutes at the end of the day. Or try an inversion table. Any way you defy gravity aids your lymphatic system.
- Brush it off. Dry brush, that is. This is an excellent way to stimulate your lymph system while lightly exfoliating your skin. This creates the friction and massaging movement that your lymph system needs. Ideally, dry brush just before a sauna or shower using a medium-soft brush. Start at your ankles and work your way up toward your heart. Ask any Inner Spa team member for detailed instructions. (We also offer a lovely long-handled brush for $10)
- Reduce exposure to toxins. Sounds more difficult than it is. Simple things like removing your shoes when entering your home and opting for natural or organic foods, cleaning products and personal care items greatly reduce exposure. Use glass containers rather than plastics. And the simplest—wash your hands often.
- Go Botanical. Many herbs and essential oils support the lymphatic system by reducing inflammation. Look for cilantro, echinacea and red clover for their anti-inflammatory properties. Or use essential oil complex Zendocrine™ Detoxification Complex. The Inner Spa team can help you choose and show you how to use essential oils. Check out this podcast for non-toxic cooking hints.
- Go Red. Infrared Sauna, that is. You get all the benefits of being in the sun without the harmful UV rays. The light waves penetrate deep, encouraging cell regeneration and the release of toxins from the inside out. It’s not magic. It’s science. Our personal sauna offers you a spa experience that you can extend to your home. Simply zip in for 25 minutes after dry-brushing. Alternatively, check out the DNA Vibe. This spot infrared treatment tool helps reduce pain and discomfort and can be used anywhere on your body to reduce inflammation and rebuild mitochondria. BONUS: Chiropractic. Yes, chiropractic helps your lymph system operate efficiently.
